Autodesk Forge is now Autodesk Platform Services
Converge is a UK-based technology company harnessing AI, the cloud, and wireless sensors to revolutionize the construction lifecycle with actionable data insights that drive jobsite productivity and sustainability.
On most jobsites today, a guessing game with concrete wastes both time and materials. As the foundation of the built environment, concrete must be poured and cured with caution to ensure it achieves the strength needed to hold up buildings or span waterways. Build on top of concrete too soon and risk an unstable structure. Wait too long and waste precious time. Construction crews have long relied on cumbersome methods, like wired sensors, or wasteful techniques, like cube crushing, to determine when concrete has reached strength. And still, these methods don’t give clues that could optimize when to move the jobsite forward. They also don’t provide insights that could reduce the carbon load of emissions-heavy concrete.
The solution is Converge’s ConcreteDNA, which brings together wireless sensors, AI, and building information models (BIM) to create predictive digital twins built on Autodesk Platform Services. ConcreteDNA’s wireless sensors embed into concrete pours and provide real-time curing data. By feeding those sensor readings into cloud-based models powered by the Viewer and Model Derivative API, the solution transforms into a concrete digital twin. Project managers can access sensor data in context of the build, easily seeing precise sections of concrete and status without sorting through disorganized data. An AI-based engine layers on top to generate strength predictions, giving certainty about when to progress the jobsite at the earliest opportunity. Material waste reduction comes from eliminating the need for cube crushing. And with advanced analytics, concrete mix performance data can inform more sustainable design mixes that hold less embodied carbon.
“Data on its own is useless. Using Autodesk Platform Services to organize and surface data in the context of a model is what highlights the insights we produce that can transform processes. This is key to how we achieve the holy grail of construction: less cost and less carbon.” - Gideon Farrell, Co-Founder and CTO of Converge
