7 must-attend Forge classes at Autodesk University 2022

Autodesk University (AU) is just around the corner. This year, hosted in New Orleans from September 27th to 29th, the design and make conference will bring together innovators from architecture, engineering, construction, manufacturing, media and entertainment at an in-person event.

Join us to learn how Forge APIs allow users to automate processes, connect teams and workflows, or visualize their data. Through success stories and case studies, we hope to inspire ways in which you can take on your own project using Forge. Let’s take a closer look at some of these special Forge-tailored classes happening at AU this year.

1. ECOFACT (ECO-innovative Energy FACTory Management System)

Andrea Perego

ECOFACT is a 12M€ Horizon 2020 EU-funded project made up of 20 consortium members from several European countries. This project aims at developing an ECO-innovative Energy FACTory Management platform using improved dynamic LCA/LCCA towards holistic manufacturing sustainability.

The team is leading the development of the Digital Twin Platform (DTP), based on Autodesk Forge and composed of production lines 3D models and different applications (material-flow simulations, energy simulations, production planning and scheduling, industrial energy disaggregation, industrial energy flexibility). The DTP will display simulation results and real-time IoT data alongside the 3D models leveraging Forge functionalities. This class will dive deeper into the project itself and explanation of how Forge was used here.

2. F1 Grand Prix through Autodesk Build and Forge

Fernando Malard

In this case study, we will present the challenges designing a set of software solutions to address F1 track construction process and asset management. This class will explore all available technologies like Civil3D, Autodesk Build and Forge but specifically how they demanded integration to address specific race track construction aspects.

Customization scenarios will be presented and specific business demands will be further explored. We will also present the positive impact achieved by using Autodesk Build, Civil3D and customization through Autodesk Forge. Tight deadlines and dynamic changes to the process and pace of development will be analyzed and presented from a stakeholders perspective.

3. Forge Data Roadmap: Moving from Files to Cloud Data

Philippe Videau

As the industries you work in have evolved dramatically with technology advancements,  the expectations for more connected and customized products, buildings, and experiences have too. You and your customers’ businesses are pressured to move faster, reduce costs, and eliminate waste.

Join us for this roadmap session! The Forge Data team will cover how we’re tackling these challenges so you can work better with data across your apps and teams. Explore how you can use, and contribute to, the cloud data tools and APIs we’re developing.

In the meantime, check out the two new Forge Data APIs: Forge Data Exchange and Fusion Data.

4. ACC & Forge, our CDE backbone that integrates the hospital Data Management

Jacques Levy-Bencheton

This class will show the implementation of a powerful Common Data Environment (CDE), using Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) & BIM 360 combined with an application developed in Forge, for the management of hospital project data. With the Grand Paris North Hospital project, intended to be the largest hospital in Paris, France, designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop and Brunet Saunier Architecture, we will explain the implementation of data workflows in order to build optimized circuits to involve all project stakeholders, planners, owner, users, architects and all engineers’ firms with Collaborate Pro and Docs (design collaboration, model coordination and issues management).

We will show how a connected Forge application will collect data from ACC in order to push automation processes in data analysis and deliverables creation. We will do a live demonstration of this real Forge-based BIM Data Checker enabling data processes throughout the project life cycle, from plan to operation. If you want to learn about implementing an efficient CDE in order to control data with a Forge, this presentation is for you!

5. Automating the workflow of data from Revit with Forge Data Exchange

Frode Tørresdal

Exchanging data from Revit to other applications is very often a file based and time consuming task. In our case, it's typically based on an IFC export from Revit, this IFC file is then imported into another application and the result is imported into Revit by an add-in that reads a text or Excel file.

These challenges have been addressed by using the Forge Data Exchange API, exchanging only the necessary subset of data. This API is still in beta and there are two possible cases that may be demonstrated on AU:

  • The first one is to use the Forge Data Exchange API to automatically get the analytical model from Revit, open it in a structural analysis application, do the analysis there and then send the result automatically back to Revit. The results can then be used to create structural reinforcement and to suggest changes to the model.
  • The other case is based on sending properties data back and forth between Revit and applications that handle building specifications, prices and sustainability data.

Check out this class to learn how to use the new Forge Data Exchange API to connect and access a subset of design data in your own application.

6. Accelerating Engineering Workflows in the Process Industry With Forge

Jessica Soloway

Are you struggling to leverage all the benefits of going digital? Like many industries, the process industry struggles in adopting the efficiencies of digital. Whether designing a plant from scratch, modifying an existing installation, or upgrading old equipment – vendor and EPC collaboration for a single equipment tag can still take hours, stacks of printed paper drawings are still supplied in submittal, and CAD assets can be disconnected or sometimes unavailable.

Learn how Emerson has leveraged Autodesk Forge to help accelerate industry digital transformation by improving digital customer experience. Forge is the platform that connects ERP, PLM, and business logic - providing a complete CAD configuration experience on MyEmerson and Emerson.com. Also learn about how this digital platform backbone enables a future of asset management, design automation, common data environments, IoT visualization, and Digital Twins.

7. ISO19650 to support Digital Engineering processes

Vladana Darras

Digital transformation is accelerating as we speak, and standards are coming to make our life easier. Everyone wants to be the first runner and best-in-class, but how to cope with this speed and get the job done? This class will give an example of SYSTRA digital transformation strategy and the effort needed to launch the implementation of ISO 19650 on both organization and project levels. An overview of the lessons learned and "must" actions to be deployed will be described. We will uncover how ISO served to ramp up our digital engineering and data management capabilities and push us to invest in development of our own digital solutions based on Forge. We will further look at the implementation of different ongoing projects and the direction we are heading right now on our digital transformation journey.
