Shaping tomorrow: a look back at Autodesk DevCon 2024

Autodesk DevCon

Autodesk DevCon season has officially kicked off with DevConX in Boston and the flagship event in Munich! It was great to see over 700 customers (and Autodesk product, sales, and engineering teams) in attendance, and to hear all the engaging conversations and exciting networking going on.

Hosted by Autodesk Platform Services, Autodesk DevCon is the event for software developers and business innovators to learn about Autodesk's Design and Make Platform vision, our new Data Strategy, and how to leverage the power of Autodesk APIs and services to build innovative new solutions.

DevCon Attendees

The flagship two-day event was hosted in Munich 05/28-05/29, with the more intimate DevConX in Boston from 05/14-5/15. We had a blast and wanted to share a few highlights from the event. We also love hearing from you, so make sure you fill out the event survey (for Munich and Boston) to let us know what you liked and where we can improve for next year!

General Sessions

We kicked off Autodesk DevCon learning about the now, near, and next of Autodesk's platform vision. Ben Cochran, VP of Developer Enablement (Munich) and Emile Kfouri, Sr. Director Platform Engineering (Boston) discussed how you can unlock unlimited value through connected data and AI. Shelly Mujtaba VP Product Data (Munich) and Hardev Saini, Director of Prod. Mgmt Data Platform (Boston) dove deeper on how access to real-time, granular, and interoperable data is creating unprecedented opportunities in our industries. Tulika Garg, Director Prod. Mgmt Developer Enablement (Munich and Boston) shared the Autodesk Platform Services Roadmap and all the ways we'll help you take advantage of these opportunities. One thing was clear: the pace of data and technology is accelerating, offering immense potential for solving critical customer problems. The time to act is now.

Day 2 General Session was all about you! We showed many real-life use cases to inspire your next solution.

In Munich, we had Sweco present their SmartDrawings solution that democratizes BIM data by making 3D models easy to use from anywhere.  Then Avixi presented how they used the AEC Data Model API to automate tedious quality control workflows, making exponential efficiency gains.  We wrapped up with Susanna Holt, VP of Strategic Technologies, sharing what it looks like to actively build with us and innovate extraordinary solutions by sharing Certified Partner stories from nCircle, NTI, and Cideon. And she provided all the resources that we hope you’ll tap into to make the most of our partnership and your digital transformation dreams come true. You can find a list of those resources at the end of this post.

In Boston, we had IMEG onstage to discuss their use of our Revit, Power BI, and Dynamo connectors to create a single view of their critical projects. They automated hard to access data into Power BI dashboards accelerating code compliance workflows. Avixi presented their data model solution, and  we wrapped up with Jacobs discussing their key successes adopting the AEC data model as well.

Breakout Sessions & Research Workshops

Autodesk DevCon class

Boston sessions

With over 45 classes and workshops presented at both Munich and Boston, there was no shortage of content for our technical, business, and research-oriented attendees. Hot topics presented were:

  • Autodesk data models and new data capabilities that can increase your productivity, automation, sustainability, and profitability. If you layer AI on structured and labeled data, the opportunities are immense.
  • AEC attendees enjoyed classes on our AEC Data Model and Forma, Autodesk Construction Cloud beginner and advanced API technical tips, how to connect Revit to the cloud, creating digital twins, dashboards, and much more.
  • Attendees from the Manufacturing industry were immersed in classes on our manufacturing data model, building configurators, using the Viewer, connecting Inventor and Fusion to the cloud, and much more.

Evening Events

Both Autodesk DevCon Munich and DevConX Boston followed a similar theme of hosting evening receptions in beer gardens. The evening reception in Munich was hosted at Das Bamberger Haus, an Austro-Hungarian beer garden in the heart of the city. Our fearless VP of Developer Enablement, Ben Cochran, tapped the keg to keep the party going!

Boston’s evening reception took place at Harpoon Brewery, a craft beer garden just steps from the Autodesk office in Boston.
