The Challenge: Building management software data is disorganized and difficult to use
Building management software gathers valuable data about energy use, occupancy, and systems maintenance. But often the data is difficult to find and use. Maintenance teams need extensive training to learn and locate a building’s systems, equipment, and schedules. And when an equipment failure is detected, teams lose critical time digging for documents, drawings, and manuals.
Building information models or BIM can solve these issues. BIM holds extensive data about every part of the building and its systems. BIM’s 3D environment also helps visualize the building in rich detail and context. But there’s a hitch. BIM files are massive and difficult to import. TCIT turned to Autodesk Platform Services APIs to make BIM agile enough for their platforms.
The Solution: Bringing BIM to the cloud for custom digital twins that optimize facility management
TCIT tapped Autodesk Platform Services to bring large 3D models into the cloud. Here, BIM serves as the foundation for custom facility management digital twins. TCIT combines our Model Derivative and Data Management APIs to convert BIM models into lightweight files in the cloud. Displayed in a browser by the Viewer, the models are easy to click through. With little to no training, operations teams can manipulate models to find systems, equipment, and their associated data. They can log their responses in a single digital thread.
TCIT enriches the digital twin with other Autodesk APIs, IoT, AI, and intelligent video surveillance. Dashboards provide overviews of building performance and detailed views of rooms and systems. Wide-ranging model and document views load into the system for single-source-of-truth access to building data (BIM 360 and Autodesk Construction Cloud APIs). Heat maps show power consumption in relation to equipment use (Data Visualization API). Escape route analyses help safety teams analyze emergency protocols (Design Automation API) and visualize the escape routes in the 3D scene (Viewer). Video surveillance enables real-time views of parking lot use (Viewer). TCIT’s digital twins are powering more efficient operations across many buildings, including data centers, hospitals, residential communities, and factories.
