Today’s design and make workflows rarely happen inside a single application.
Architects, engineers, manufacturers, and project teams rely on a growing ecosystem of Autodesk and third-party tools to bring ideas to life. As those workflows become more connected, customers expect their data to move more seamlessly between applications while preserving fidelity and design intent. That helps reduce manual effort, minimize rework, and enable more connected workflows across teams.
That is why interoperability remains a strategic priority for Autodesk.
Today, Autodesk announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire select technology assets and intellectual property from BIMDeX, a technology provider focused on data interoperability, and to hire a subset of the talented BIMDeX team.
Should the proposed acquisition close as anticipated, the technology and product engineering talent included in the transaction are expected to strengthen Autodesk’s interoperability capabilities and support our broader platform strategy.
Building on our existing interoperability investments
Over the past several years, Autodesk has invested in foundational platform capabilities that help customers connect their data more effectively.
Autodesk Data Exchange and Autodesk Platform Services (APS) help customers securely share granular design and make data across Autodesk and third-party applications, while enabling developers and partners to build richer connected experiences.
BIMDeX has developed specialized technology for high-fidelity interoperability across CAD, BIM, design, and manufacturing applications. Its expertise complements these existing investments and supports Autodesk’s long-term vision for more connected workflows across products, disciplines, and organizations.
We are also excited about the opportunity to welcome a subset of BIMDeX’s product engineering team. We believe their deep experience in interoperability would help advance this important area of our platform.
Why this matters
High-fidelity interoperability helps preserve design intent as data moves across tools and teams. It can reduce manual effort, minimize duplicate work, and help customers collaborate more effectively throughout the project lifecycle.
It also creates a stronger foundation for AI-enabled workflows.
As AI becomes more deeply integrated into how customers work, it will increasingly depend on connected, usable, and context-rich design and make data. Strengthening interoperability can help enable those experiences by making it easier for data to move across the tools and systems customers already use.
What existing BIMDeX customers should expect
Existing customer contracts and support needs will continue to be managed by Srinsoft Inc. and will not transfer to Autodesk as part of the proposed acquisition. Autodesk will coordinate with Srinsoft Inc, which in turn intends to ensure its customers receive clear communication as the process progresses, sharing additional information as appropriate.
Looking ahead
Interoperability has always been about helping customers work more effectively across the technologies they depend on every day.
As workflows become increasingly connected, and AI becomes more capable, the importance of moving data seamlessly across Autodesk and third-party ecosystems will only continue to grow.
The proposed acquisition represents another step in Autodesk’s continued investment in interoperability and the platform capabilities customers value most.
