Today, Data Exchange enables teams to share curated subsets of their models through Autodesk Forma (formerly Autodesk Construction Cloud). These Data Exchanges can be consumed through our Data Exchange API / SDK or for end users through the Data Exchange connectors in applications such as Revit, Inventor, Rhino, Tekla, Navisworks, Power BI, and more.
A key advantage of this workflow is that Data Exchanges are loaded as durable references that remain linked to their source. This means that when the original author publishes updates, consumers can easily refresh their data while maintaining a reliable connection to the latest information.
But we’re not stopping there. We’re also working on something new - and recently gave attendees a first look at it at Autodesk DevCon: Data Exchange Live (private beta).
Data Exchange Live enhances interoperability by enabling live connections between design tools. Instead of publishing and consuming versions, users can collaborate through a live session, allowing participants to see updates typically within a few seconds, based on the overall complexity of the model.
With Data Exchange Live, you can:
- Select a subset of your model and start a live session from Revit or Rhino
- Invite other participants to join the session
- Collaborate across Revit and Rhino in multiple workflows, including Revit → Rhino, Rhino → Revit, Revit → Revit, and Rhino → Rhino
- Receive updates from other participants within seconds as changes are made
- See who is actively participating in the live session
- Save the final state of the collaboration as a new version of the Data Exchange
Data Exchange Live connectors are still in an early development phase and available to Revit and Rhino users for testing through a limited private beta. Participants of the beta program can test the workflows through a remote setup (no installation required). Due to this setup, please note that spots are limited and therefore participation can’t be guaranteed.
Interested in actively testing and providing feedback that will help shape the future direction of Data Exchange Live?
We invite you to join our waitlist using the form below – if selected for participation, we'll contact you with onboarding details as spots become available.
Join the Data Exchange Live – Private Beta Waitlist
As part of the private beta, you will be invited to an onboarding session where our team will share more details to help you get started and explore the capabilities of Data Exchange Live.
Please note:
- Data Exchange Live is under active development, and capabilities may evolve or change throughout the beta period.
- Data Exchange Live connectors are Autodesk-developed plugins built on top of the Data Exchange SDK. At this stage, the beta is focused on evaluating the end-user experience and does not include testing opportunities for developers or SDK integrations.
- Participation in the private beta is subject to acceptance of applicable beta terms and community guidelines available for review during the registration process.
