App Ownership Transfer
In the dynamic world of app development, team changes are a common occurrence. Whether due to employee turnover or project reassignments, knowing how to transfer app ownership is crucial. This guide will walk you through the process for Autodesk Platform Services (APS) users.
Why Transfer App Ownership?
Typically, two main scenarios necessitate an app ownership transfer:
- The previous app owner has left the company.
- The current owner is leaving the project or wants to transfer it to another team.
Let's dive into how to handle these situations effectively.
Scenario 1: Previous Owner Has Left the Company
When dealing with an app whose owner is no longer with the company, we recommend the following secure process:
- Reactivate the Old Email: Your IT department should temporarily reactivate the former employee's email inbox.
- Reset the Password: IT should then reset the account password. This can be done via the official Autodesk account management page: Autodesk Account Management.
- Transfer the App: With access restored, IT can now transfer the app to the new owner(s).
- Deactivate the Email: Once the transfer is complete, the old owner's email inbox should be deactivated again.
This method allows for a self-service approach while minimizing social engineering risks.
Scenario 2: Current Owner Transferring to Another Team
If you're the current owner looking to transfer the app, the process is straightforward:
- Log into APS: Access your Autodesk Platform Services account at APS MyApps
- Locate the App: Find the app you wish to transfer in your list of applications.
- Initiate Transfer: Click the "Transfer Ownership" option next to the app.
- Send Invite: Input the new owner's email ID and send the invite.
- Await Acceptance: The recipient will have 7 days to accept the transfer invitation.
It's that simple!
Important Notes:
- Remember, the recipient has a week to accept the transfer. If they don't respond within 7 days, you'll need to resend the invitation.
- Ensure that your account is not in Trial mode or has a negative balance. Trial accounts can be converted to full access by opting for the "Start Commercial Use" option at APS MyAccount.
