ANDRITZ Group is a global leader in engineering and industrial technology, with 30,000 employees at more than 280 locations in 80 countries worldwide. The company provides innovative, sustainable solutions for the pulp & paper, metals, hydropower and environment & energy sectors.
ANDRITZ delivers projects ranging from high-performance hydro turbines to next-generation wastewater treatment systems. Combining deep industrial expertise with a commitment to digital transformation and decarbonization, it helps customers operate smarter, cleaner, and more efficiently.
To improve efficiency and reduce errors, ANDRITZ needed to unify data across systems, disciplines, and business units. Given the scale and complexity of its engineering projects, ANDRITZ leveraged a vast range of software systems. From AutoCAD and Inventor for mechanical engineering, to Vault for product data management, to AVEVA E3D for plant engineering and COMOS for process engineering, siloed systems collectively produced massive volumes of project data. One project alone had over 500,000 documents, each with multiple versions.
But this fragmented systems landscape presented critical challenges. Users uploaded and retrieved data manually. Accessing up-to-date documents across systems was difficult and time-consuming. And without a unified data environment, cross-functional collaboration was hampered.
ANDRITZ saw an opportunity to make collaboration easier, faster and less error prone. It needed a centralized, system-agnostic data hub that could connect disciplines across project phases—spanning its four diverse business sectors.
ANDRITZ harnessed Autodesk Platform Services to create a unified data environment that enables centralized collaboration with Autodesk Construction Cloud.
The team used APS components to build an integration pipeline from source systems to ACC, featuring:
Initially, adoption was a hurdle. Users were accustomed to manually controlling document flow and were hesitant to change. To build trust and drive adoption, ANDRITZ responded with comprehensive training and education, demonstrating the benefits of the ACC integration. The team behind this effort at ANDRITZ started with just four people and now has 10 people supporting 1,500 users across the company.
By implementing this integrated APS and ACC solution, ANDRITZ was able to bridge design, manufacturing, construction and more. The company achieved:
ANDRITZ now uses ACC as a data management hub, opening new possibilities for broader stakeholder engagement. What’s more, ANDRITZ developed a digital twin solution for their customers, utilizing APS technology and leveraging the data acquired within ACC during project execution.
