Name Change for Design Automation API – Now Automation API

What's changing?
We’re updating the name of the Design Automation API to Automation API beginning June 30th.
This change does not affect your existing workflows. All current functionalities, endpoints, and URLs will remain exactly the same. No code changes are required on your end.
Why the change? The API has grown beyond just design workflows to support broader automation use cases across both design and make. The new name better reflects these expanded capabilities and the long-term vision for our portfolio. What Does the API Do?
It’s worth repeating that the Automation API is designed to support automation applications across both design and make processes. From batch processing design files, parameter adjustments, drawing generation, to data extraction, this API significantly enhances productivity and efficiency. By allowing you to offload heavy processing tasks to Autodesk Platform Services, the Automation API ensures your workflows are handled more effectively at a much larger scale.
What products are supported?
The Automation API enables access to several powerful products, each enabling automation at scale :
-
AutoCAD: Automate common workflows, run custom add-ins, scripts, and AutoLISP routines.
-
Revit: Access Revit's capabilities as a cloud service, enabling automation of complex design tasks.
-
Inventor: Utilize Inventor's API for intricate mechanical design automation.
-
3ds Max: Perform rendering and simulation tasks on 3ds Max files.
-
Fusion: Integrate Fusion's design and select manufacturing processes, extending its utility through scripting.
What's not changing?
We recognize that changes can be disruptive, which is why we've taken steps to ensure this update has minimal impact. You can rest assured that all existing URLs and endpoints will remain unchanged. This means continuity in accessing services and integrating the API into your applications without any disruption. This is purely a naming update, designed to better reflect the broader capabilities and long-term direction of the API
