Autodesk Informed Design API is now in Public Beta

The Autodesk Informed Design API is now available in public beta on Autodesk Platform Services (APS), unlocking new capabilities for developers to integrate, automate, and extend design-to-manufacturing workflows in the cloud.
What is Autodesk Informed Design?
Autodesk Informed Design connects product manufacturers and building designers by making detailed building component information available early in the design process. Instead of waiting until the construction or fabrication phase to address manufacturability, architectural designers can now work directly with product data, including dimensions, configuration rules, and materials, while they're still modeling.
This improves design certainty, reduces rework, and shortens delivery timelines by ensuring that configured components adhere to manufacturer-defined specifications and constraints, reducing the risk of redesigns during fabrication.
With Autodesk Informed Design, you can:
-
Publish configurable building component data (e.g., doors, balconies) using Informed Design for Inventor.
-
Configure and integrate those components into architectural designs within manufacturing constraints via Informed Design for Revit.
-
Manufacture products in the BOM efficiently with minimal back and forth using the Informed Design web application.

Introducing Autodesk Informed Design API
The Autodesk Informed Design API extends the capabilities of Informed Design to the cloud, allowing developers to read, write, and extend product design and manufacturing data. This enables partners, application developers, and customers to build custom workflows that integrate directly with Autodesk tools.
Extend and customize Autodesk Informed Design
What can you do with the Informed Design API?
Use this API to automate workflows between manufacturing and construction including processes like sales and engineering configuration, automated materials management, configurators for procurement and more.
Here’s what you can do today:
Automated Product Creation
-
Publish and manage configurable building components via Inventor.
-
Set up product variants and sharing rules for Revit users.
-
Control product releases and ensure collaborators see the right data.
Configuration-Driven Design
-
Enable designers to configure products in Revit within rules defined in Inventor.
-
Automatically generate Revit assets based on configurable inputs.
Manufacturing Outputs – Without Revit or Inventor
-
Access tagged with metadata products via ACC, BIM 360, or Fusion Team.
-
Retrieve BOMs, drawings, and fabrication details directly from the API.
