Reality Capture API
The Reality Capture API provides the photogrammetry capability to process digital images into high resolution textured meshes, dense point clouds and orthophotos. This highly scalable and easy-to-use API uses the power of the cloud to compute structure-from-motion and multi-view-geometry algorithms. Any REST-capable mobile, desktop or web application can connect to this API.
The resulting Reality Capture data (RCM, OBJ, RCS, GeoTIFF) can be viewed within various Autodesk desktop applications such as: ReCap Photo, ReCap Pro, Civil 3D and InfraWorks.

Photo to Reality Capture Models
The Reality Capture API has the capability to process aerial images captured with UAV or drones, or images captured manually on a digital camera (DSLR, mirrorless, point & shoot cameras or even modern smartphones).
The API allows processing of multiple jobs concurrently while giving continuous, real-time status updates.
Aerial Photogrammetry Capture
Using the aerial scene type, the API can process up to 2000 geo-tagged images captured by a UAV or drone with a (rectilinear lens) camera. Ground Control Points (GCPs) can be specified to mark precise coordinates of known points in the scene to generate highly accurate 3D models. The geo-located input as well as output data can be specified in any geo-referenced coordinate system.
The output data includes:
- RCM: High resolution streaming Autodesk ReCap textured mesh
- RCP/RCS: High density Autodesk ReCap point cloud
- OBJ: Textured mesh
- FBX: Autodesk FBX 3D asset exchange format
- GeoTIFF: Orthophoto
- Quality report
Manual Photogrammetry Capture
Using the object scene type, the API can process up to 300 images of objects, statues, building facades and interiors. It generates high resolution, photo realistic textured mesh models which can be viewed and edited in Autodesk ReCap Photo to create various digital assets.
The output data includes:
- RCM: High resolution streaming Autodesk ReCap textured mesh
- OBJ: Textured mesh
