Bill Young
Fabrication Specialist, ShopBot Tools Inc.
Trained as a boat carpenter, Bill Young is now a Community Liaison and Fabrication Specialist with ShopBot Tools in Durham, NC. From his shop on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, Bill brings this mix of analog and digital skills to projects ranging from milling circuit boards to fabricating full-sized houses.
As one of the founders of the 100kGarages digital fabrication network, Bill has worked to promote distributed and local manufacturing while helping build a network of 600+ fabricators around the globe. Working with designer Josh Worley he has helped develop the MakeLocal collaboration between 100kGarages and Opendesk.
Bill has been creating and sharing CNC files for digital fabrication projects for almost 20 years, and is proud to be one of the founders of the Shelter 2.0 project, an Open Design for transitional and emergency housing.
